He led the reinvigoration of Equality Arizona after a ten year low point in activity. He has led a team of statewide staff and community leaders fighting for LGBTQ+ inclusive policies at the municipal, state, and federal levels. During the 2020 election his team at Equality Arizona activated more than 2 million Arizonans and played an instrumental role in turning Arizona blue for the presidential election and electing a second Democratic senator.
With more than twenty years of professional experience in the non-profit political field, Michael is a proven leader in the movement for LGBTQ+ liberation, with experience across sectors and from the local to the international level. Michael is also a graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Women and Gender Studies and a Master of Science in Justice Studies. In the fall of 2021 he will begin studying for his PhD in Justice Studies at Arizona State University.
After 5 years under Michael’s direction on the board and in his current role, Equality Arizona has seen a revitalization as a political force in Arizona and is now a fully-staffed statewide non-profit with a strong membership and diversified funding streams.
